Docents lead tourgoers through various buildings on the Beaufort Historic Site, giving a detailed explanation of the structure and its contents. A separate docent-lead tour includes pointing out specific headstones and explaining its relevance at the enchanted Old Burying Ground. More extensive training will be given for this volunteer opportunity including shadowing currents docents. They are required to wear Colonial dress, which can be provided. Beaufort Historic Site tours are offered daily Monday through Saturday at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Old Burying Ground tours are offered Tuesday through Thursday at 2:30 pm. Docents are expected to work at least once per week.
Educational Program Volunteer
This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who enjoy working with younger generations to educate them on Beaufort’s history! The Beaufort Historic Site offers education programs to in-county and out-of-county schools throughout the year, including building tours, Old Burying Ground tours, Courthouse Dramatization, Harvest Time, and Kindergarten Thanksgiving. Volunteers are expected to work as needed during these programs. Scripts for each educational program are provided. Colonial dress is required, which can be provided.
Hands-on training and all training materials are provided for all volunteer opportunities. Training is on-going throughout the year. Flexibility in schedule is strongly needed to adjust to the varying tour schedules monthly.
