Beaufort Historical Association Committees

If you’re looking for more ways to get involved, join one of our many wonderful committees!

There are many ways to participate at the BHA. Being involved in a committee is a consistent commitment if you’re looking to add an activity to your volunteer calendar. We could always use more help for events and maintaining the grounds. Volunteers and committees truly are the backbone of this organization. Thank you for participation and building us up!

Members of the Art Gallery Committee oversee the daily operations of the Gallery and jury in artwork and artists to the gallery. The Committee also assists with finding Featured Artists for shows and assists with the openings as well. The Committee participates in monthly meetings to maintain policies for the galleries and coordinate upcoming openings.

Those involved in the Maintenance and Restoration work closely with the Executive Director and Restoration Specialist in determining restorations and the best approach to additions, changes and maintenance of the buildings.

Those involved in Furnishings, Tours and Conservation make regular inspections for material and conservation as well as documenting the artifacts and furnishings in each house. The Committee also participates in giving tours to tourists and during events.

The Bus Committee is primarily comprised of the bus drives for the BHA scheduled Beaufort tours and other events with use of the bus. Along with driving the bus, the Committee oversees maintenance and repairs of the bus as required.

The Education Committee develops and strengthens educational on site programs involving school groups and tourists. The Committee is heavily involved in Harvest Time and Kindergarten Thanksgiving in the fall and assists with other organizational activities within the county that contribute to the education of Historic Beaufort.

The following special events require hard working committees to oversee the planning and see the specific event through from start to finish.  Committees for the Valentine/Membership Drive, Old Homes Tour, Summer Party, Fall Party, and Christmas Candlelight Tour all have the same basis purpose: to achieve a successful event.  Each individual committee assists in planning their relative event as well as obtaining sponsors, auction items and donors for the event. The Committees also participate with ticketing and support attendance the days of the events.

Those on the Old Burying Ground Committee coordinate staffing for the OBG for tours and assist in training new tour guides. They are to regularly review the material used in tours for factualness and consistency.
