The Josiah Bell House

Originally constructed on this site, the front section was built in the 1790s. It was enlarged and porches added at a later date c. 1825, by Josiah Bell. Josiah was a justice in the Carteret County Court. His son, Josiah Fisher Bell, one of the main agents in the Confederate spy network in Carteret County during the Civil War, was one of the leaders of the plot to blow up the Cape Lookout Lighthouse in 1864.
