    January Membership Meeting

    Members and prospective ones are invited to join the Beaufort Historical Association for the Annual Membership Meeting and potluck dinner on January 21, 6 p.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 215 Ann Street in Beaufort. The meeting is a perfect opportunity to make friends with fellow members and new ones while enjoying a delicious meal. During the meeting, there will be a special presentation of the film Beaufort Remembers, a Scrapbook Productions, Inc. and Beaufort Documentary Group film about the daily life of Beaufort from the 1920s to the 1960s, told in the voices of those who lived it. “The premiere of the documentary in December was a huge success bringing the whole community together in celebration of Beaufort’s past,” BHA Executive Director Patricia Suggs said. The event was completely sold out, so this gives our members a chance to see a portion of the film.” The 2019 Volunteer Awards will also be presented. The BHA will present the prestigious Edward and Frances Piver Volunteer of the Year Award to the outstanding volunteer of the year.   • Valentine Party

    Membership Drive Valentine Party

    Each year, the Sunday before Valentine’s Day, the Beaufort Historical Association welcomes the public to enjoy food, fun, and fellowship as it opens the authentically restored homes and buildings of the Beaufort Historic Site during its annual Valentine Membership Party. This year’s event will be held Sunday, February 9, between 2 and 4 p.m., welcoming current members and encouraging new members to join. The Membership Drive has been a tradition for many years. It started in 1992 as a Valentine’s Party in a private home to attract new members. By 2000 the planning committee realized that the attendance had more than outgrown any private home in Beaufort. The party is now hosted at the Historic Site, where two acres and all authentically restored houses and buildings are open for members and potential members to enjoy and learn more about this area’s coastal heritage. Each house or building features different, special refreshments for visitors to enjoy.     Attendees are invited to learn about volunteering at the Beaufort Historic Site, 130 Turner St. Anyone interested in historic preservation and research, student educational programs, driving a double-decker bus, leading tours, retail sales in the gift shop or helping with the many committees that are the backbone of the Association are welcome to attend. For more information please call 252-728-5225.

  • Volunteer Training

    Our volunteers play an integral part in the programs and functions that take place at the Beaufort Historic Site. Without these volunteers, many of our events would not be possible. We love welcoming eager and positive additions to the volunteer family. This year, the one-day Volunteer Training Program will be on Tuesday, March 9 from 9 – 4 p.m. at the Historic Site.  Anyone interested in either volunteering occasionally or on a regular basis will have the chance to learn about more than 20 volunteer opportunities available at the training session. We will also provide a delicious lunch. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the buildings, ride the double-decker bus, tour the Old Burying Ground, and see how volunteer docents work with the many visitors who come to the site. During lunch, prospective volunteers will have an opportunity to meet the BHA staff, hear about the many ways to help and ask questions to better understand the vital role volunteers play in the daily functions of the BHA.
