The Beaufort Historic Site offers more than a walk through old buildings. Educational programs, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive resources give students, visitors, and curious adults a direct connection to the history of Beaufort and Carteret County. Programs meet North Carolina Standard Course of Study guidelines and are available for school groups throughout the year.

Education Has Been Part of the Mission Since 1960

The Beaufort Historical Association was founded with a clear purpose: to research, preserve, and interpret the heritage of Beaufort and Carteret County, and to educate current and future generations of that heritage. Every educational program at the site reflects that original commitment. Programs are led by trained staff and volunteers, many of whom have deep personal knowledge of local history. Whether it is a kindergarten class learning about colonial cooking at the Leffers Cottage or an eighth-grade group arguing a case in the restored Carteret County Courthouse, the goal is the same: history that sticks.
