    January Membership Meeting

    Members and prospective ones are invited to join the Beaufort Historical Association for the Annual Membership Meeting and potluck dinner on January 21, 6 p.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 215 Ann Street in Beaufort. The meeting is a perfect opportunity to make friends with fellow members and new ones while enjoying a delicious meal. During the meeting, there will be a special presentation of the film Beaufort Remembers, a Scrapbook Productions, Inc. and Beaufort Documentary Group film about the daily life of Beaufort from the 1920s to the 1960s, told in the voices of those who lived it. “The premiere of the documentary in December was a huge success bringing the whole community together in celebration of Beaufort’s past,” BHA Executive Director Patricia Suggs said. The event was completely sold out, so this gives our members a chance to see a portion of the film.” The 2019 Volunteer Awards will also be presented. The BHA will present the prestigious Edward and Frances Piver Volunteer of the Year Award to the outstanding volunteer of the year.   • Angela Harker Art Show

    The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery is excited to welcome artist Angela Harker this coming April. A free show will be held at the gallery on Friday, April 1 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. All events are subject to change. Harker will be the featured artist for the months of April and May. “As a child, I was always painting and crafting, and in my early career as a First and Second Grade Teacher, there were countless artistic avenues to explore,” Harker said. “I have always dabbled in anything and everything creative.” Harker says, growing up in the countryside of Zimbabwe fueled her creative side and feels it is the reason she is drawn to color and light. “The vibrant colors, coupled with the luminosity of pastels and the immediate results that they create really appeal to me.” While many of Harker’s pieces are pastels, she does not restrict herself in the use of other mediums. While she draws constant inspiration from her homeland, she also draws from the natural world around her. “I have developed a passion for painting animals and love to add this element to the landscapes I paint, be it a bird in the marshes or […]

  • Old Homes Tour Kickoff Party & Bartender’s Challenge + Hunter Stephenson’s Art Opening

    The Beaufort Old Homes Tour & More Weekend (June 22 - 26) will be ushered in with great food, fun, and art at the annual Kickoff Party at the Beaufort Historic Site on June 4th from 4 - 6 pm. This special event is held each year as a way to thank the homeowners who graciously open their homes and gardens and make the tour possible The party will be held in conjunction with the art opening for Hunter Stephenson, this year’s Old Homes Tour featured artist. The art opening is free and open to the public.  The Old Homes Tour Bartender's Challenge -- a local favorite -- will also be returning this year! Several bartenders from local restaurants, as well as local “celebrity” bartenders will be showcasing their favorite drinks at stations around the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site.
