    Janet Jaworski Art Opening

The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery is excited to welcome artist Janet Jaworski for an art show on Saturday, August 15 at 5 p.m. at 130 Turner Street, Beaufort, N.C. The event is free and will follow federal, state, and local guidance regarding COVID19 during the time of the show. Jaworski is a North Carolina artist based in Morehead City. She paints primarily with oils. Many of her works showcase the beautiful wildlife, seascapes, and more of the Crystal Coast. “When my husband came down here for work, we were struck by the area,” she said. “We would be wandering and exploring nature and wildlife, he started doing more photography... and now many of his photos are the start of my paintings.”     Jaworski's style reflects her vibrant personality; her paintings are full of color and life rather it be one of the tumbling ocean or a soaring bird. “My style has always had to do with color.   • Annual Easter Egg Hunt

    Children ages seven and younger are welcome to join the fun. This annual event features prizes, refreshments and over 2,000 eggs.  It’s all free - just bring a basket!     An old-fashioned flea market on the Beaufort Historic Site with vendors selling antiques and collectibles, art, crafts, handmade jewelry, books, food and more. No admission charge.   • Flag Retirement Ceremony

    Learn how to properly retire a US Flag! Free event to all. Open to local school groups and scout groups as well. Visitors will have a chance to take part in this unique ceremony that honors the US Flag. It may come as a surprise to many that one of the proper methods of retiring your tattered or damaged flag is in fact-to burn it. After the flag is cut into pieces, we ceremoniously burn the pieces one by one, starting with the stripes and ending with the blue field. Come join us for this wonderful event!  What a better way to spend an evening on Flag Day! Held outside on Historic Grounds.   • 61st Annual Old Homes Tour & More

    The Old Homes Tour will take place on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th from 10 am - 5 pm. This annual tour features some of Beaufort’s beautiful private homes, glorious gardens, multiple local churches and artists’ studios throughout the town, as well as the authentically-restored buildings and grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site. Tour tickets are $20 and are available online or in at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center (130 Turner St.). Gorgeous homes and quaint gardens will be featured on this year’s tour, along with accompanying events. Other events throughout the week include: The Old Homes Tour Kickoff Party/Bartender's Challenge, in conjunction with an Art Show for Old Homes Tour Featured Artist Hunter Stephenson at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery (June 4th 4-6 pm), a Literary Luncheon (June 22), the Joy of Living Floral Event (June 22), and a Sunday Brunch (June 26) in a beautiful garden at a private Beaufort home. “We are excited to be back in full swing with the Old Homes Tour this year,” Executive Director Patricia Suggs said.  “This is a really special time when homeowners generously open their homes and show our visitors what southern hospitality is all about!”   […]

  • Barn Quilt Workshop (NOW FULL)

    NOW FULL JOIN THE WAITLIST BY CALLING 252-728-5225. Back by popular demand! Learn how to make your very on Barn Quilt. A barn quilt is a large piece of painted wood that looks like a single quilt block and decorates the side of a barn or building.  Our barn quilts will be 24”x24” and you will be able to take it home with you! Material fees are $60. Guests will be able to pick from an array of designs and colors. You must sign up at least a week in advance. Workshop max is 8.   • Pine Needle Basket Workshop (WAITLIST NOW OPEN)

    ** Class is NOW FULL, join the waitlist by calling 252-728-5225** Learn how to make your own Pine Needle Basket with Ms. Penny Holland!  The class will be held three different times: May 6, July 22 (advanced session), and September 16. Pine needle basket-making dates back to almost 9,000 years ago and the baskets served as a vessel for grain, crops, and other essentials. The price for materials is $50 for each class. All supplies provided. Bring bag lunch. Must sign up by calling 252-728-5225 or visiting the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street. Sign up ends a week before each class.     Enjoy this new, patriotic wreath-making class taught by Margy Schmidt! Cost is $45.00 and class size is limited to 8. Supplies will be provided.
