  • Fall Art Sale

    Beaufort Historical Association Honors Fall Party with Art Auction   For the past 28 years, the Fall Party has taken place every year as a way to raise funds for the Beaufort Historical Association. While it is about raising these crucial funds, it is also about joining together as friends to celebrate the Association, season, and one another.   This year’s Fall Party will be unlike any other as it will be a Fall Art Auction. It will be a celebration of the history of the party and the artists who have been featured. The Association is excited to welcome back past Fall Party artists for this special event. While unable to join in person, this virtual aspect will allow all to learn about the history of the Fall Party, Association, and have the chance to purchase beautiful artwork from past artists.   The art will be gradually added and is available for bidding at bidpal.net/2020fallartsale.   • Valentine Membership Party

    Come to the Beaufort Historic Site to enjoy the free largest open house of the year on Sunday, February 6 from 2 – 4 p.m. This year, the Valentine Membership Party, a free event, will celebrate the community spirit that is so evident in Beaufort. All are welcome to enjoy the hospitality of the Beaufort Historical Association, tour the authentically-restored historic buildings, and learn more about the special coastal heritage of the area. The event will feature spirits, hor d’oeuvres, and fine art. Don’t miss artist Kate Highsmith, the daughter of known artists Kyle Highsmith, in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery! Kate’s work is vibrant, full-of life and features local and abroad scenes. The Association even hopes to unveil part, if not all of the Old Jail c. 1829 Restoration project!   • Embroiderers’ Guild

    The Tryon Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America will be at the Beaufort Historic Site on Monday, March 28 at 1:30 p.m. The local embroiderers guild members are set to be on hand at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street stitching and working on current projects. The public is welcome to come join in, inquire about guild membership, or bring stitching projects they are having trouble with.   • Annual Easter Egg Hunt

    Children ages seven and younger are welcome to join the fun. This annual event features prizes, refreshments and over 2,000 eggs.  It’s all free - just bring a basket!   • Beaufort, Books, & Bubbles (April 30th, 3:30 – 5:00 pm)

    Join the Beaufort Historical Association in a special toast to the release of Kristy Woodson Harvey’s new book, The Wedding Veil, on Saturday, April 30, from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. The event is free and will be held at the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street. Attendees will be able to enjoy a refreshing beverage, meet Harvey, purchase a copy of The Wedding Veil, and have it personalized. Kristy Woodson Harvey is a local New York Times best-selling author who has been featured in The Washington Post and USA Today, among other national publications. She is well-known for her Peachtree Bluff Series, which follows the life of the Murphy sisters in their home of Peachtree Bluff, a fictional town based on Beaufort, North Carolina. Harvey’s new book, The Wedding Veil, is the story of four generations of women who are all bound by one family heirloom, a beautiful wedding veil, which has a secret connection that will change their lives – and history as they know it – a veil tied to the famous Vanderbilt family.   • Pine Needle Basket Workshop

    Learn how to make your own Pine Needle Basket with Ms. Penny Holland!  The class will be held three different times: May 6, July 22 (advanced session), and September 16. Pine needle basket-making dates back to almost 9,000 years ago and the baskets served as a vessel for grain, crops, and other essentials. The price for materials is $50 for each class. All supplies provided. Bring bag lunch. Must sign up by calling 252-728-5225 or visiting the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street. Sign up ends a week before each class. Max for each class is 10. All Beaufort Historic Site Events are subject to cancellation and or change.

  • Warren Bingham on George Washington

    ***NOW FULL*** Hear from Warren Bingham on his book," George Washington's 1791 Southern Tour". Bingham has been featured in notable print as well as broadcast media such as PBS. He will also be signing and selling his book. He grew-up in North Carolina and has lived most of his adult life in Raleigh. Though Bingham has had a career in financial and philanthropic services, he has long maintained a vigorous sideline as a writer and speaker on topics in history. In 2016, his book on Washington’s Southern Tour was published and he took a year to make over a hundred public and media appearances scattered from DC to Georgia.. During that book tour, Bingham spoke twice at Mount Vernon, appeared on C-SPAN, was interviewed by National Public Radio in Atlanta, appeared on Wilmington television news, and was featured on North Carolina BookWatch on PBS North Carolina.   • 61st Annual Old Homes Tour & More

    The Old Homes Tour will take place on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th from 10 am - 5 pm. This annual tour features some of Beaufort’s beautiful private homes, glorious gardens, multiple local churches and artists’ studios throughout the town, as well as the authentically-restored buildings and grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site. Tour tickets are $20 and are available online or in at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center (130 Turner St.). Gorgeous homes and quaint gardens will be featured on this year’s tour, along with accompanying events. Other events throughout the week include: The Old Homes Tour Kickoff Party/Bartender's Challenge, in conjunction with an Art Show for Old Homes Tour Featured Artist Hunter Stephenson at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery (June 4th 4-6 pm), a Literary Luncheon (June 22), the Joy of Living Floral Event (June 22), and a Sunday Brunch (June 26) in a beautiful garden at a private Beaufort home. “We are excited to be back in full swing with the Old Homes Tour this year,” Executive Director Patricia Suggs said.  “This is a really special time when homeowners generously open their homes and show our visitors what southern hospitality is all about!”   […]

  • Publick Day

    On Saturday, April 15 from 9 – 4 p.m., The Beaufort Historic Site will kick off the spring season with the annual Publick Day event on the grounds at 130 Turner Street. The Site will transform into an open-air marketplace, welcoming visitors to explore the vast array of goods and items for sale from various vendors. “Publick Times” dates back to the Colonial period and is fashioned after Williamsburg of the 1700s when the General Court was in session. "Publick Times" gave visitors an opportunity to come to town to see and be seen, conduct court business, shop, gossip, dine and dance.  Guests who attend Publick Day can expect to find a variety of vendors selling antiques, vintage finds, collectibles, crafts and more. Vendor space is available.  Applications are being accepted to rent a 10’ x 10’ space for $35 if you are a BHA member and $50 for non-members. Space is first-come, first served, and the event is held rain or shine. Spaces are non-refundable. Vendors must supply their own tables and tent if needed.
