Area canvas rugs, today known as floor cloth, had their start in 18th century England. Initially used by the wealthy, the designs and patterns mimicked parquet flooring, tile, and marble. Make your own floor cloth in a workshop led by Donna Hagerty. Space is limited to 8 people so reserve your spot by calling (252)728-5225. There is a materials fee of $50.
They say COVID changed everything, but thank goodness the Fall Party has only had minor changes. In 2020 we completely cancelled the party. In 2021 plans changed quickly from a private home and the party was moved to the Historic Site. It gave us more room and a whole art gallery to hang all the amazing art. This year the party will again take place on the grounds of the Historic Site. Blue Moon Jazz and Scarborough Fare will be back. This year, we are fortunate to have two accomplished artists, Audrey Cushman from New Bern, NC and Karen Crenshaw from Jacksonville, NC. We got to know Audrey and Karen through our partnership with NC Plein Air New Bern when the BHA hosted a paint out and wet paint sale in Beaufort. This event has grown tremendously in only 4 short years into an eight-day event with 35 nationally and globally acclaimed plein air artists. The Beaufort Historic Site will host the North Carolina Plein Air Beaufort Pop-up Show and Sale on Wednesday, May 15th and Friday, May 17th from 4 to 6 pm. North Carolina Plein Air is a non-profit arts organization that brings together world-class juried artists from across the globe to paint throughout Beaufort with a “wet” paint sale following both days. Many paintings created during the event center around Beaufort’s outdoor landscapes and have in the past featured surrounding marshes, the waterfront, downtown architecture, and streets lined with historic homes. This year marks the fourth occurrence of this event, which is rapidly establishing itself as a prominent feature in the art scene of North Carolina. The Carteret County Arts & Crafts Coalition's Biannual Arts & Crafts Show and Sale will take place at the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner St., Beaufort, N.C., on Memorial Day weekend, May 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free, family-friendly, and held at the historic site, the Carteret County Arts & Crafts Coalition's Memorial Day Show and Sale is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday weekend! Join us on October 18th for an informative talk and demonstration of Heather’s painting process and viewpoint on painting and teaching art. Heather will be the Featured Artist for fall in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery. Her show with exclusive, newly created works will open Oct 25th and run through the holidays. The talk will be held in the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street from 11:00AM to noon. Complimentary Coffee and baked lite bites will be available to attendees.
