Committees

Take an Active Role in Preserving Beaufort’s History

Joining a committee is one of the most direct ways to contribute to the work of the Beaufort Historical Association. If you are looking for a consistent, hands-on role beyond general volunteering, a committee is where that happens.

There are many ways to participate at the BHA. Committee involvement is a regular commitment for members who want to stay active in a specific area of the organization, whether that is maintaining the grounds, running events, or overseeing the buildings. Volunteers and committees are the backbone of this organization, and there is always room for more help.

Members of the Art Gallery Committee oversee the daily operations of the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, jury in artwork and artists, and assist with finding Featured Artists for shows. The Committee also helps with gallery openings and participates in monthly meetings to maintain policies and coordinate upcoming exhibitions.

Maintenance and Restoration Committee

Buildings
This committee works closely with the Executive Director and Restoration Specialist to determine restoration priorities and the best approach to additions, changes, and ongoing maintenance of the historic buildings on site.

Furnishings, Tours and Conservation Committee

Buildings
Members conduct regular inspections for material condition and conservation needs, document the artifacts and furnishings in each building, and participate in giving tours to visitors during regular hours and special events.

Bus Committee

The Bus Committee is primarily made up of drivers for the BHA’s scheduled Beaufort tours and other events. In addition to operating the 1967 double-decker bus, the committee oversees its maintenance and coordinates repairs as needed.

Educational Programming Committee

The Education Committee develops and strengthens on-site educational programs for school groups and visitors. The committee is heavily involved in Harvest Time and Kindergarten Thanksgiving each fall and supports other educational activities throughout Carteret County that contribute to the understanding of historic Beaufort.

Event Committees

Several special events throughout the year require dedicated committees to handle planning from start to finish. Committees for the Membership Drive Valentine Party, Old Homes Tour, Summer Party, Fall Party, and Christmas Candlelight Tour each work to produce a successful event by assisting with planning, securing sponsors, gathering auction items and donors, managing ticketing, and supporting attendance on event days.

Old Burying Ground Committee

The Old Burying Ground Committee coordinates tour staffing, assists in training new guides, and regularly reviews tour materials for accuracy and consistency.
