Help Keep Beaufort’s History Alive
The Beaufort Historical Association has operated without public funding since 1960. Donor generosity is what keeps the historic buildings standing, the tours running, and the research ongoing. Every contribution goes directly toward preserving Beaufort’s past for future generations.
There are several ways to give to the Beaufort Historical Association: annual memberships, unrestricted gifts, honor and memorial gifts, contributions to the David Wightman Memorial Fund, or planned gifts through the Beaufort Historical Foundation Endowment Funds.

Matching Gifts
Many companies offer matching gift programs that can double or even triple the impact of an employee’s donation. Some programs extend to retirees and spouses as well. Contact your Human Resources department to find out if your employer participates. Contributions of any amount support the BHA’s preservation efforts.
Honor & Memorial Gifts
An honorary or memorial gift to the Beaufort Historical Association is a meaningful way to celebrate a milestone, remember a loved one, or recognize someone whose commitment to Beaufort’s history deserves acknowledgment. Tax receipts are provided to all donors, and notifications are sent to the individuals or families designated by the donor. Gifts can be made online, by mail, or by phone.
David Wightman Memorial Fund
This fund was created by the friends and family of David Wightman in remembrance of his love of Beaufort and the English double-decker bus. David formerly lived in England, drove one of these buses there, and later assisted the Beaufort Historical Association with maintenance on its own vintage 1968 bus. The fund supports the ongoing care and upkeep of that bus.
Beaufort Historical Foundation Endowment
Established in 1986 as a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Beaufort Historical Foundation exists solely to support the Beaufort Historical Association through investment funds designated for special needs and the ongoing maintenance of the buildings on the two-acre Historic Site.
Individuals can support the Foundation through outright gifts of cash or check, publicly traded securities, real estate, tangible personal property, or corporate matching gifts. Planned giving options include irrevocable gifts that provide life income to donors such as gift annuities, charitable remainder annuity trusts, and pooled income funds, as well as revocable gifts through wills, life insurance policies, and retirement and pension plans.
