Valentine Membership Party

How many of you have driven by the Beaufort Historic Site, and have never been in any of the buildings??  Even if you’ve been, things change as we learn more information about the history of the buildings and the residents who lived there.  If you’ve never been in the buildings, now is the time to come enjoy our largest open house of the year!  The membership drive is a long standing tradition that’s been greatly revamped from the days of cookies, punch and pimento cheese sandwiches (on white bread with the crust cut off- of course!).  This party is all about the community spirit that has been so evident after Hurricane Florence.  We all want normal, and food, drink and fellowship on the Historic Site Grounds seems especially normal.

We call this our “membership” party, but we’re glad to welcome potential members and especially volunteers to come enjoy and learn more about our historic site and this area’s special coastal heritage. Everyone has their own unique way of enjoying the party.  The beer and pizza in the jail, the high test and regular apple cider in the Leffers Cottage, and the olive oil tasting in the Carteret County Courthouse of 1796 are all favorites.  The complete menu is featured on page 2.  The most unique aspect of this party is that it’s great for singles, couples, children and even pets! This year, the party takes place on Sunday, February 10th from 2 to 4 pm.

On top of all the food and drinks offered there will be two featured artists in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery for our Valentine Party. Local residents and friends, Vicki Mann and Brook Penick, have been taking art lessons from Heather Sink for several years.  They’ve learned a great deal from Heather, and now we’re happy to welcome them for their first show in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery.

Be sure to RSVP, and also invite friends, coworkers and neighbors who have an interest in Beaufort and want to find out more about the Beaufort Historical Association and all of the many activities and events that are held throughout the year.  There is a wide range of giving levels from $25 for students and senior citizens to $5,000 for the Somerset Circle with each level of membership receiving special benefits.  Memberships can be purchased online at www.beauforthistoricsite.org.  For more information about the Valentine Party, check online or stop by the Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street, or call 252-728-5225
