The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery will welcome talented artists Brook Penick and Vicki Mann as the featured artists for the months of February and March. This will be the first show for both of them.
In her own words, Brook writes, “Painting is a new creative outlet that I am so grateful for uncovering. Two years ago, I started painting classes with Heather Sink at Craving Art Studio. Under Heather’s guidance and encouragement, I began to develop my style of realistic painting. I love concentrating on one object, and making it come alive on the canvas. Whether I’m painting birds, cocktails, fruits or flowers, the best part of the process for me is when all the little details come together at the end.
I’ve always enjoyed creating, whether it be through needlework, crafts or cooking, but having discovered the pleasure of painting at this stage of the game is a gift, indeed!”
In her own words, Vicki writes, “I always considered myself creative and crafty but never imagined myself an artist. After moving to Beaufort several years ago I enrolled in a painting party class with Heather Sink as my instructor. I realized that painting brought me joy, and I was immediately hooked! I began painting in earnest about 2012 and continue paint classes at Craving Art Studio to explore and develop my style.
I enjoy painting what I see in my everyday life here in beautiful Beaufort. Whether it is a dramatic sky, oysters and wildlife or the abstract idea of a coastal setting, I look to capture my subject with bold brushwork. In my impressionist style of painting where oil is my preferred medium, I tend to use color and palette knife for texture to add excitement to my paintings.”
Brook and Vicki’s collections will debut during our Valentine Membership Party and can be seen through the months of February and March at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, the oldest gallery in Carteret County showcasing the work of over 100 local and regional artists. The gallery is open from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday and is located at the Beaufort Historic Site, 130 Turner Street.
The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, located in the historic Rustell House c.1732 on the Beaufort Historic Site, is the oldest art gallery in Carteret County.
