Beaufort native Jamison Ipock is the MKD Art Gallery’s featured artist for February and March. This talented artist often creates paintings from moments or memories she has cherished, and many of those are the coastal scenes that surround her. As she puts it, “Carteret County is such a beautiful place. I just want to capture that beauty on canvas and save the moment.”

She does just that, bringing her paintings to life with her use of color and light. Not afraid to experiment in different techniques and paints, she uses a variety of methods to express her views on canvas.

Jamison was not able to devote much time to her art until recently. After earning a Bachelor of Science at Meredith College she worked as a science teacher and administrator for 27 years. Having recently retired, she now has time to devote to her art saying, “I have always been interested in art, but I never actually had the time or energy to paint until I retired.”

Her newfound time has been well spent in pursuit of her art. She says one of the best things about getting back in the art field is meeting and learning from so many wonderful artists in Carteret County.

Her gorgeous paintings will be on display through March, and of course the perfect opportunity to see this show will be at the BHA Valentine Party Sunday, February 8th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Beaufort Historic Site, 100 Block of Turner Street. All are invited to come and consider joining the Beaufort Historical Association to support the preservation and education programs of our local historical treasure.
