SUMMARY:Voices of the Past
DESCRIPTION:This special Old Burying Ground Tour will take place on Saturday\, November 1 in timed groupings at 4:00\, 4:30\, 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. The tour coincides with Allhallowtide\, the three-day period dedicated to remembering the departed. Our tribute will bring to life fascinating tales of those laid to rest in Beaufort’s Old Burying Ground. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for ages 6-12 and available for purchase in the Old Beaufort Shop until sold out. \nWhile the BHA hosts tours of the Old Burying Ground year-round\, Voices of the Past offers a unique experience. Guests will be assigned a Caretaker Guide who will provide safe passage through the ground’s winding paths by lantern light. Expect friendly and storied encounters with spirits at select gravesites who have long awaited your visit. This year the tour will be followed by a Day of the Dead Kachina parade at 6 p.m. beginning at the Old Burying Ground and making its way to Middle Lane for an additional celebration of ancestors. PLEASE NOTE: This tour\, parade\, and the Middle Lane event honor the past and are not intended in any way to frighten or evoke fear. \nEach tour will last roughly 45 minutes. We can only welcome between 150 to 200 guests\, so be sure to reserve your spot by time slot soon. Tickets are on sale now by calling 252-728-5225 or visiting the Old Beaufort Shop\, located on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street. \nFor more information\, contact the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 252-728-5225.\n  \nTICKETS ARE SOLD OUT.\nPhysical tickets will be available for pickup at will-call in the Welcome Center before the event or on the day of the event.

SUMMARY:Bonehenge Excursion
DESCRIPTION:Take the double-decker bus to Bonehenge!At the Bonehenge Whale Center\, visitors will walk beneath a pair of massive right whale mandibles and explore whale skeletons in various stages of preparation. Guests will have the chance to handle baleen\, teeth\, large bones\, and even experience the texture and scent of whale oil. \nNorth Carolina’s remarkable whale diversity is highlighted\, with 34 species found in local waters. The visit includes an overview of whale biology\, conservation\, and research\, along with examples that address key issues such as entanglement\, ship strikes\, and plastic pollution. \nInteractive activities include mystery boxes\, a dolphin dorsal fin photo-ID game\, quizzes\, and more. Dive into the depths of pirate history with author and pirate expert Robert Jacob\, as he explores the captivating story of Blackbeard’s career. \nDrawing from his award-winning book Blackbeard: The Truth Revealed\, Jacob presents surprising truths based on original documentation from the archives of England\, France\, North Carolina\, South Carolina\, and Virginia. His talk uncovers many little-known facts about Blackbeard while also addressing myths and legends surrounding his treasure. \n\nAbout the Speaker:Robert Jacob’s passion for history earned him induction into the International Pirate Hall of Fame. His engaging presentations have been featured by community organizations\, museums\, and The History Channel. A retired US Marine Corps CWO5\, Robert now lives in Palm Harbor\, Florida. \nWhile researching pirates\, he discovered that much of the historical record was contradictory or inaccurate. His latest book\, Blackbeard: The Truth Revealed\, is widely regarded as the definitive work on the world’s most famous pirate.

SUMMARY:Japanese Pin Cup Flower Frog Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this unique workshop\, part of our Living History series. In this session\, you’ll create a beautiful heavy iron pin cup featuring a flower frog for holding floral arrangements. The basket is crafted on a #’ maple base using the traditional Nantucket weaving technique. It incorporates Hamburg cane as the primary weaver\, complemented by a navy blue rim secured with waxed linen. \nThe finished piece measures 3 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall. The class will be held on November 18th at 9 AM in the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center and will be led by instructor Kathy Petronzio. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Book Launch and Luncheon for Elizabeth and the Baby Otter which is a new children’s hardcover picture book set amid the Cape Lookout National Seashore about the adventures of a little girl and a baby otter. Written by local author\, Deborah Van Dyken\, and illustrated by local artist\, Barbi Bailey-Smith\, they will both speak about how they wrote\, illustrated\, and published this book.  This luncheon event will be held at the Dunes Club in Atlantic Beach\, and Deborah and Barbi will be available to personally autograph copies of their book. Please come and get in touch with your inner otter! \nTickets are $45. \nPLEASE NOTE: There is no reserved seating for this event at the beautiful Dunes Club. Tables will be set for 6 with seating on a first-come basis. In this intimate setting every seat feels VIP.  All tickets include a luncheon salad\, muffin\, and citrus tart desert with choice of coffee\, tea\, or water. A cash bar will be available with a selection of wines\, and books will be on sale before and after the luncheon.
