SUMMARY:Ikebana Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Ikebana means living flowers. Ikebana is an art in Japan in the same sense that painting and sculpture are elsewhere. In Japan\, they have over 2\,000 different schools of ikebana. In this workshop\, the instructor\, Diane Saye will be demonstrating the Ichiyo School of Ikebana. There are two important philosophies of the Ichiyo school\, including the concept that the arrangement must fit the environment in which it is displayed and the individual arranger’s characteristics are expressed throughout the arrangement. Thus\, it’s not just pretty flowers in a vase; it’s considered to be an art of human connection. \n  \nThe class is limited to 15 students. Beginners are welcome and the materials fee is $30\, please bring 3-5 pieces of fruit or vegetables and a platter or dinner plate for arranging. Please register in advance by calling the BHA at 252-728-5225\, e-mailing bhaeducation@outlook.com\, or stopping by the Visitor’s Center located at 130 Turner Street.

SUMMARY:Fall Party
DESCRIPTION:They say COVID changed everything\, but thank goodness the Fall Party has only had minor changes. In 2020 we completely cancelled the party. In 2021 plans changed quickly from a private home and the party was moved to the Historic Site. It gave us more room and a whole art gallery to hang all the amazing art. This year the party will again take place on the grounds of the Historic Site. Blue Moon Jazz and Scarborough Fare will be back. This year\, we are fortunate to have two accomplished artists\, Audrey Cushman from New Bern\, NC and Karen Crenshaw from Jacksonville\, NC. We got to know Audrey and Karen through our partnership with NC Plein Air New Bern when the BHA hosted a paint out and wet paint sale in Beaufort. This event has grown tremendously in only 4 short years into an eight-day event with 35 nationally and globally acclaimed plein air artists. We are extremely appreciative to have two of them for our 2023 Fall Party. \nTickets for the Fall Party are $125 \nBUY YOUR TICKETS HERE \n

SUMMARY:Soap Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn a practical skill\, create gifts\, and let your creativity run loose by taking up the art of soap making. Homemade soap is loaded with natural and aromatic products that are better for your skin and the planet.  To make soap entirely from scratch (as opposed to melting and pouring with premade soap bases)\, you’ll need to use lye\, a caustic salt known as sodium hydroxide. The chemical reaction between lye and oil ingredients is called saponification\, which creates soap (and leaves no lye in the finished product). Come join us for this fun and useful class! please RSVP to 252.728.5225 to reserve your spot. MATERIALS FEE $75
