SUMMARY:Angela Harker Art Show
DESCRIPTION:The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery is excited to welcome artist Angela Harker this coming April. A free show will be held at the gallery on Friday\, April 1 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. All events are subject to change. Harker will be the featured artist for the months of April and May. \n“As a child\, I was always painting and crafting\, and in my early career as a First and Second Grade Teacher\, there were countless artistic avenues to explore\,” Harker said. “I have always dabbled in anything and everything creative.” \nHarker says\, growing up in the countryside of Zimbabwe fueled her creative side and feels it is the reason she is drawn to color and light. “The vibrant colors\, coupled with the luminosity of pastels and the immediate results that they create really appeal to me.” While many of Harker’s pieces are pastels\, she does not restrict herself in the use of other mediums. \nWhile she draws constant inspiration from her homeland\, she also draws from the natural world around her. “I have developed a passion for painting animals and love to add this element to the landscapes I paint\, be it a bird in the marshes or a wild pony on the North Carolina seashore\,” she said. “I strive to create a peaceful and harmonious scene that the observer can easily relate to and enjoy.” \nHarker has achieved much in her artistic career and has been accepted into many juried shows. However\, she says her “greatest thrill” is when someone wants to purchase a piece and hang it in their home. Many of her pieces are now in homes on several continents. \nCome find a special new piece for your home this coming April! For more information about the artist and or the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery\, call 252-728-5225\, visit beauforthistoricsite.org\, stop in at the Safrit Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Voices of the Past: SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT \n\nThe Beaufort Historic Site will be hosting a special Old Burying Ground Tour on Saturday\, October 30 at 5:30 p.m. The tour\, taking place Halloween weekend\, is called Voices of the Past. It will bring to life the stories of those who have long passed and have been laid to rest in the Old Burying Ground. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for ages 6-12\, and will be available for purchase in the Old Beaufort Shop until October 29 or until sold out.\n\n  \nWhile the Historic Site offers tours of the Old Burying Ground year-round\, Voices of the Past will have a twist. Guests will be grouped with an appointed “Burial Caretaker”\, who knows the ins and outs of the grounds and will lead them through this unique experience. As guests traverse through the grounds by mere lantern light\, they will find the Old Burying Ground quite literally coming to life. \n  \nSeven different burial sites of seven passed souls with seven unique stories will be a part of this tour. However\, instead of the “caretaker” sharing these stories\, those who have passed will tell their own. Guests can expect to hear the story of Vienna Dill\, a child buried in a unique casket; Josiah Bell\, the past owner of the Josiah Bell House now located on the Historic Site Grounds; a British Officer\, who is buried in a way to honor the British Crown; Captain Otway Burns\, a naval hero in the War of 1812; the Girl Buried in Rum; Nancy Manney French\, the story of forbidden love reunited; and Sarah Gibbs and Jacob Shepard\, the story of lost lovers in life\, but together in death. \n  \nTickets are on sale now by calling 252-728-5225 or by visiting the Old Beaufort Shop\, located on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street.

SUMMARY:Summer Party: Slightly Reimagined
DESCRIPTION:Our Summer Party is back this year\, slightly reimagined\, but still with the same great food and drinks from Scarborough Fare Catering\, and all our many friends that love this party. We have to downsize just a little bit\, so instead of the big eight-piece band\, we will have music by Blazin’ Keys Entertainment\, a high energy dueling piano trio (2 pianos and a drummer). It IS different this year\, but it will be fun for everyone. You can request your own songs\, and sing and dance along at this interactive party. This year\, different is a good thing! We’re very excited to be able to get together and celebrate\, finally. All funds from this party will go toward the extensive restoration of our Old Jail c.1829. We are a little over half-way through this project\, and your help is needed for the remainder of the funding. We will also be holding an online silent auction at the Summer Party. There will be plenty of items to bid on. If you have items you’d like to donate\, we are accepting items now. Tickets are $100\, and sponsorships are welcome at $250\, $500\, $1\,000 and $2\,500. \n  \nStarting bidding on the Silent Auction by clicking HERE. Auction closes on July 10 at 9:30 pm. Anyone anywhere can bid! \nTICKETS NOW SOLD OUT.
