SUMMARY:Plein-Air New Bern's Beaufort Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:The BHA will host a Pop-Up Gallery for Plein Air New Bern\, an up-and-coming non-profit that cultivates artistry based upon the landscapes of Craven\, Pamlico\, and Carteret Counties. Every spring\, thirty-five artists from around the world come to the area and paint competitively “plein-air”\, that is\, in the “open air”. \nOn May 18th\, Plein Air’s featured artists will make their way down to Beaufort with blank canvases in hand to paint local scenes in and around the area. Spectators will be welcomed to travel out and view the artists at work by tracking their location on an app and seeing their real-time whereabouts throughout the day. At the end of the day’s painting period\, a pop-up gallery will be hosted on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site from 4-6pm\, and will offer paintings for purchase which were created earlier that day. \nTo see which artists will be featured in the festival this year or for more information on Plein Air New Bern\, visit their website at www.ncpleinair.org. To hear more about the Pop-Up event in Beaufort\, call the Beaufort Historic Site at (252) 728-5225. \n  \nPhoto above: Formal Pollination by Kim Hall\, a 2022 featured Plein Air artist.

SUMMARY:Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Members and prospective members are invited to join the Beaufort Historical Association for the Annual Membership Meeting and potluck dinner on Tuesday\, January 24 at 6 pm at St. Paul’s Church\, 215 Ann Street in Beaufort. Following a potluck dinner (bring your favorite dish!) there will be a very brief business meeting to discuss the Association’s 2023 plans. A special program by Geoffrey Adair will also take place. The night will end with an awards presentation honoring the Association’s volunteers and the Warped Weavers’ 40th year at the BHA! \nAdair\, who was born and raised in Beaufort\, is the sixth generation of his family to live on Orange Street.  He vividly remembers the smell of Menhaden steamers moored at Beaufort’s docks\, the cool air of the season’s first mullet shift and the simple pleasure of swimming across “the cut” on a hot summer’s day.  Learn a bit of Beaufort’s history and hear his recollections of what it was like growing up in this historic seaport village before it became Southern Living’s “Top Small Town to Visit!” \nHis program will include a discussion about growing up in “pre-discovery” Beaufort and the physical and cultural changes that have occurred in Beaufort since the 1950s.  He also plans to have a thirty-minute slide presentation comprised of 200 photos of Old Beaufort paired with photos of the same scenes as they appear today. \nThe program will be followed by the presentation of the Association’s Volunteer of the Year awards. While all volunteers at the Beaufort Historical Association are treasured\, these awards show gratitude to those who have gone above and beyond for the Association. Nominations can also be made by emailing officemanager@beauforthistoricsite.org. \nFor more information on the upcoming Membership Meeting or to nominate volunteers \nfor the awards\, stop by the Visitors Center at 130 Turner Street\, or call 252-728-5225.

SUMMARY:Voices of the Past (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:*SOLD OUT*\n\nThe Beaufort Historic Site will be hosting a special Old Burying Ground Tour on Saturday\, October 29 at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The tour\, taking place Halloween weekend\, is called Voices of the Past. It will bring to life the stories of those who have long passed and have been laid to rest in the Old Burying Ground. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for ages 6-12\, and will be available for purchase in the Old Beaufort Shop until sold out.\n\nWhile the Historic Site offers tours of the Old Burying Ground year-round\, Voices of the Past will have a twist. Guests will be grouped with an appointed “Burial Caretaker”\, who knows the ins and outs of the grounds and will lead them through this unique experience. As guests traverse through the grounds by mere lantern light\, they will find the Old Burying Ground quite literally coming to life.\n\nEight different burial sites of eight passed souls with eight unique stories will be a part of this tour. However\, instead of the “caretaker” sharing these stories\, those who have passed will tell their own.\n\n\nEach tour will last roughly an hour and will only welcome 50 guests\, so reserve your spot soon! Tickets are on sale now by calling 252-728-5225 or by visiting the Old Beaufort Shop\, located on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site at 130 Turner Street.
