DESCRIPTION:Take the double-decker bus to Bonehenge!At the Bonehenge Whale Center\, visitors will walk beneath a pair of massive right whale mandibles and explore whale skeletons in various stages of preparation. Guests will have the chance to handle baleen\, teeth\, large bones\, and even experience the texture and scent of whale oil. \nNorth Carolina’s remarkable whale diversity is highlighted\, with 34 species found in local waters. The visit includes an overview of whale biology\, conservation\, and research\, along with examples that address key issues such as entanglement\, ship strikes\, and plastic pollution. \nInteractive activities include mystery boxes\, a dolphin dorsal fin photo-ID game\, quizzes\, and more. SUMMARY:Voices of the Past
DESCRIPTION:This special Old Burying Ground Tour will take place on Saturday\, November 1 in timed groupings at 4:00\, 4:30\, 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. The tour coincides with Allhallowtide\, the three-day period dedicated to remembering the departed. Our tribute will bring to life fascinating tales of those laid to rest in Beaufort’s Old Burying Ground. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for ages 6-12 and available for purchase in the Old Beaufort Shop until sold out. \nWhile the BHA hosts tours of the Old Burying Ground year-round\, Voices of the Past offers a unique experience. Guests will be assigned a Caretaker Guide who will provide safe passage through the ground’s winding paths by lantern light. Expect friendly and storied encounters with spirits at select gravesites who have long awaited your visit. This year the tour will be followed by a Day of the Dead Kachina parade at 6 p.m. beginning at the Old Burying Ground and making its way to Middle Lane for an additional celebration of ancestors. PLEASE NOTE: This tour\, parade\, and the Middle Lane event honor the past and are not intended in any way to frighten or evoke fear. \nEach tour will last roughly 45 minutes. We can only welcome between 150 to 200 guests\, so be sure to reserve your spot by time slot soon. Visitors can play some of the interactive challenges (mystery boxes\, dolphin dorsal fin photo-ID game\, quizzes\, etc.) we are setting up inside. The Bonehenge part of the excursion would likely take 30-40 minutes. SUMMARY:Floor Cloth Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Area canvas rugs\, today known as floor cloth\, had their start in 18th century England.  Initially used by the wealthy\, the designs and patterns mimicked parquet flooring\, tile\, and marble.  Unique designs are made in a variety of styles and colors\, using many techniques. In this 3-hour workshop\, a variety of hand-building techniques will be used to create 2-3 pieces. They will dry slowly\, then bisque fired. SUMMARY:Historic Beaufort Christmas Candlelight Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tour private homes in Beaufort and ride on the decked out double-decker bus. Homeowners\, churches\, and inns will open their doors so that the public can delight in their festive décor and decorations. The Beaufort Historic Site buildings will also be open. While the tour is walkable\, the double-decker bus will be stopping a long a route and dropping folks off. \nTickets are $25. If interested in purchasing a kids ticket (ages 6 -12)\, please call 252-728-5225. Kids 5 and under are free. For more information call 252-728-5225 or stop in at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center\, 130 Turner St. \nYour tickets will be held in will-call\, and you may pick them up at the Welcome Center during regular business hours or the day of the event.
