As part of the Beaufort Historic Site’s mission to educate future generations about their cultural heritage, a three-day Summer History Day Camp for children ages 8-11 years old will be offered.  There will be two sessions for students to choose from: July 19-21 and July 26-28.  Camp runs from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm each day with participants meeting at the Beaufort Historical Association’s Welcome Center, located at 130 Turner Street.

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to tour and learn about each of the buildings and the gardens on the Beaufort Historic Site. Campers will participate in colonial activities to learn about life in early America.  Students will learn about colonial money, clothing, and cooking while touring the historic buildings, including the popular Jail and Apothecary.  They will also be invited to participate in hands-on activities that range from knot-tying to gardening, butter churning, and open hearth cooking.  The camp will incorporate snacks and recreation time, where campers will have a chance to dress up in vintage costumes and try colonial games.  At the end of the week, campers can use coins they have earned during the workshops to barter with each other for crafts they have made.

Reservations for this program are required as there is a limit of 12 children per session, with a materials fee of $40 due at the time of reservation.  Scholarships are available.  For information on the day camp and other Living History Programs, stop by the Beaufort Historic Site’s Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street, call 252-728-5225 or 800-575-7483, or visit
