The Mattie King Davis
Art Gallery Features Marion Clark Weathers For The Month
of August
August
brings a new face to the Gallery: Marion Clark
Weathers. Her focus for many years has been bright
watercolors with bursting flower bouquets. Recently,
Weathers has been experimenting with acrylics and
painting local scenes of Beaufort and Carteret County.
These paintings have been extremely popular, as art
lovers appreciate scenes of the popular places that they
have known for years.
A
graduate of the University of Georgia with a Fine Arts
degree, Weathers believes in having fun with her subject
matter, which includes the fun, the funky and a twist on
the familiar in architectural subjects, people, animals,
florals and landscapes.

"Beaufort's Ann Street"
"Dinghy Dock"
Marion Clark Weathers’
watercolor paintings employ an original watercolor
technique she has developed, inspired by Debussy’s
music, ‘Gardens in Rain.’ The inspiration began her
‘Flowers in Rain’ series. Sights of Zinnias and Summer
butterflies during her morning walks in Beaufort have
inspired many of the paintings in this series.
Weathers
has always been a practicing artist, leading arts
organizations and civic groups, commercial art ventures
and exhibiting her personal paintings. She now balances
her time between painting in her studio beside Goose
Creek Lake and working as Registrar for the Rocky Mount
Arts Center at the Imperial Centre. Her artwork will be
on display and for sale through August and September.
An opening reception for Marion’s work will take place
August 6th from 5 – 7 pm on the grounds of
the Beaufort Historic Site.

"Butterfly"
The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery is open
to the public six days and week and is the oldest

100 local and regional artists. Gallery proceeds benefit
the ongoing educational and restoration projects at the
Beaufort Historic Site. For more information on its
