John
Silver Helps Bring Life to the Old Homes & Gardens Tour
John
Silver, featured artist for the Old Homes Tour, brings
his beautiful artwork to the Mattie King Davis Art
Gallery through June and July, 2009.
Silver paints “en plein air”,
a French
expression meaning "in the open air", and is
particularly used to describe the act of painting
outdoors.
Silver’s breathtaking oil paintings use rich neutrals
with intense highlights to draw the eye to the focal
point of the paintings.

“As a representational painter, my
subject material comes from my life and my personal
point of view. I believe this keeps me honest to my
work and to myself,” says Silver who paints with his
easel facing the opposite direction to his focus to ‘not
pay so much attention to the details.’
Silver,
a resident of Manteo, is not only an artist of
exceptional talent, but he and his wife, Sheila, also
own a gallery in downtown Manteo appropriately called
John Silver Gallery, that features his and many other
talented artists work.
